About 6 years ago I started an estate sale company. A few years into the business we joined the vintage market circuit and quickly found it took less time and was more profitable than doing estate sales. However, I will occasionally receive a call from a past client or happen upon a situation where I feel the need to help. Almost 2 months ago I was at a yard sale and came upon a situation where I really felt I needed to offer my services. Essentially, a house needed to be cleared out. A mother had passed two years previous and now her grown daughter was having her 3rd or 4th garage sale in hopes to free up the house to sell or rent. My friend, Theresa, happened to be garaging with me that day and ended up knowing the family. I listened to their story and left my phone number in case they decided they needed help. After talking with all of her siblings, the decision was made to have me make an offer on the contents of the home, with the promise to have it empty in 10 days.
I started yesterday. It's a bit of a mess, with not much profit in sight, but sometimes my business is more of a service than a profit maker. Here's a peek at the room I decided to tackle yesterday.
And here's the after...
And here's the room I'll be starting today...It may seem overwhelming, but this is legitimately my happy place. I tackle one box/pile at a time and sort it into trash or garage sale. It's actually quite rewarding as each room is emptied. I'll be bringing all of the items to sell to our December 18 & 19th garage sale- you won't want to miss it!
Now, back to our regularly scheduled challenge.
The Room:
Work in the craft room continues with the photo cupboard. I'm trying to clear out any extra items from my cupboards so I can store more of my crafts behind closed doors- rather than all over the counter top of my work space. Here's a look...
Keep in mind this cupboard is almost 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep! That's a lot of photos! My plan is to empty the cupboard, do a quick sort through the photos and then move them to the closet of luggage I cleaned out 2 weeks ago (remember when I said it was going to help me with another room? This is the room) This summer I'd like to take all the albums and condense them into a personal history blurb book- one for my husband and one for me. We've given each of our girls a blurb book of their first 18 years as a gift at their high school graduation. It's nice to have their whole life neatly condensed into a professionally bound book. We order one copy for them and one copy for us.
So here's my start...
Empty cupboard! I promise to get it all put up by tomorrow!
The Bag:
More holiday decor to purge as I go through my storage cabinets...
These two piles weighed in at 36 pounds!
I received a few photos from a friend yesterday. I think she was trying to make me feel better about my craft room before pics. Here's her shared pictures...
The only difference is that they had a flood at their house and are in complete master bedroom/bathroom remodel mode (I'm so jealous) Believe me, she will have this space whipped into shape just as soon as construction is complete!
I'd love to see your projects! Send them over in an email to kkbiggs@hotmail.com
